20 Things That Are Younger Than Me

30 09 2008

back in july, i ran across a book called ‘72 Things Younger Than John McCain’, and figured that, while i’m not 72 (or important) yet, i’ll still try to find things that are younger than me, along with the years in which they were either made or enacted. 20 of them, to be exact.

1. mandatory airbag laws (1989)
2. Lexus (1989)
3. The History Channel (1995)
4. Nintendo 64 (1996)
5. JetBlue (1999)
6. GM EV1 (1996)
7. both Bush (1989, 2001) & Clinton dynasties (1992, 2000)
8. Barack Obama’s entire political career (state- 1997-2004, federal 2005-present)
9. the trial, sentencing, and death of Jeffrey Dahmer (1991-4)
10. The careers of Garth Brooks (1989), Martina McBride (1992), Gregg Alexander (solo- 1989, New Radicals 1997), and Lifehouse (2001)
11. the Toyota Avalon (1995)
12. Yahoo! (1995), Google (1998), and MSN (1995)
13. Windows 95 (1995)
14. eBay (1995)
15. Toyota Prius (1997)
16. the Euro (1998)
17. the Department of Homeland Security (2002)
18. Pope Benedict XVI’s reign (2005)
19. Dolly the sheep (1996)
20. NAFTA (1994)

what are some of the things that are younger than you?

The Cab Ride He’ll Never Forget

29 09 2008

*edit* apparantly the link didn’t work, so i wanted to put one up to the post that dooce did on it.

I found this page from dooce a few minutes ago, and it was something that I couldn’t help but share with all of you.

What are your thoughts on it?

this just pisses me off

29 09 2008

so i’m pulling yet another all-nighter, and on the tv, they’re talking about how mccain is complaining that the media is giving obama a free ride while criticizing mccain.

excuse me, senator, but when your campaign bans reporters from the meeting between your veep choice and a foreign leader, you don’t allow the “liberal media” to even ask questions. and when you do, and they do ask questions to palin, her responses make george bush look like he’s actually smart.

please, senator, grow a brain and start running your campaign like a campaign, instead of running it like you’re always the victim. eventually, your pacemaker will crap out on you if you don’t.

whoops

28 09 2008

so hurricane kyle isn’t going to hit down here. just maine and canada.

whoops.

bad weather ahead

28 09 2008

for those of you who don’t already know, Tropical Storm Kyle is heading towards the northeast/Canada. it’s expected to hit here as a hurricane on monday, so hopefully we’ll be able to sit through and make it to tuesday without that much damage.

it’s pretty rare that a hurricane comes this far north.

Obama wins the first debate

27 09 2008

I recently found this talking about the debate last night, and apparantly, the person who wrote it, Mark Halperin, thinks that Obama won. I’d say I have to agree.

wouldn’t be surprised if the kid who used to live across the hall from me did this

increasing that dividend

26 09 2008

so, i was rereading the post i made yesterday about the “we deserve it” dividend, and thought that it might be better to include the $700 billion that will most likely get spent on picking wall street up off it’s ass and back onto it’s feet.

the new sum wil be $785 billion. divide that by the aformentioned 200 million eligible US residents, and each person would recieve $3,925,000 before taxes. however, like last time, it is taxable, and at 30%, each person would recieve $2,747,500. that would mean that married couples would earn $5,495,000. the 30% ($1,177,500 each, $235.5 trillion  total) would go back to the government.

in terms of paying it off, here’s my answer:

if my calculations are correct (and please let me know if they’re wrong so i can then correct it) there wouldn’t be any cost to the government, since the collective tax on this increased dividend would not only pay for itself, but give a surplus.

again, if my numbers are off (i don’t think they are, but still), please let me know. i think this would work better than what’s being planned.
