the bucket list- 100 things to do before i die (part 3)

26 05 2008

since a) it’s memorial day weekend, and b) i’m part of an american family, i’m basically going to be busy the entire weekend. and, since it’s a stereotypical american weekend, i’ll spend it being a stereotypical american and driving my dad’s oversized truck.

it’s mostly because the house my mom bought about a year and a half ago is being rented out for the summer, and the people move in on monday. so we have to finish getting everything out that we don’t want them to find. like my dad’s motorcycle.

which is something that i don’t want to have in the back of the truck as i’m driving from upstate ct to downstate ct. i’ve already done it once with the other bike my dad has, and it’s not fun. since that one didn’t work at the time, we had no other choice but to take it down in the truck, but the one that’s still up there works. it’s just that my dad doesn’t want to ride it.

(as a side note, he talks about how he can’t wait to ride it once it’s down here, yet he won’t ride it to get it down here. hypocracy, i tell you)

i’m also hoping to go into the city possibly on monday before the rain comes back again, since the recent trip we took on tuesday to go see indiana jones reminded me just how much i love being in crowded cities.

i’m also going to start working on the 3rd part of that bucket list i’ve been writing within the next day or two, so if you’re actually paying attention to that, it’ll be 1/4 closer to being finished.

so, i was able to see the new indiana jones movie earlier today at the screening they had in new york city, and it was pretty good, although if you’re looking for something on the same lines as the original three, you’re not going to find it in #4.

first off, there are alot of references in the movie to other movies the speilberg/lucas team have done, one being as obvious as a part of the plot line, another being just a quick glimpse of something from another movie. so, look out for those.

i was surprised by shia labeouf’s performance, simply because all i’ve ever see him do is that annoying kid from even stevens, but i found that he’s actually quite good. for me, this movie for him was sort of like what brokeback mountain was for anne hathaway, where it solidified him as an legit actor, instead of just another face on the screen. i still have yet to see disturbia, so please keep the ‘he was a legit actor long before now’ comments to yourself. cate blanchett, on the other hand, should’ve had a better role. or, a lesser actress in that role. she just didn’t fit well, and she wasn’t given the room to show her skill in what they gave her. the return of marion, though, was a good idea.

i didn’t really like the plot line, since space creatures with skeletons made out of crystal aren’t in the series’ m.o.

plus, with how long it took them to get this thing off the ground and filmed, i expected something requiring more thought into what was going to happen. predictability isn’t a good thing in a franchise, especially in one where it took them 19 years to make a new addition to it.
