i’m no academic saint, but c’mon…

28 04 2007

while walking back to school, i ran into a girl that i had offered to help with the science test that was due back on wednesday, and that she hadn’t done. she then said, ‘would you do it?’ and i said yes, thinking she meant to help her do it, but no. she wanted me to do it for her. i then (rather quickly) told her that i wouldn’t do that for her.

if you’re unwilling to do the work yourself, then maybe college just isn’t your thing. if you’ve got a million different things to do, then that’s understandable, but college and the work that comes with it should be the first of your priorities if you want to put your money to good use. it shouldn’t be where you’re going out more often then you’re doing work, or anything like that. helping people who are having trouble doing it, that’s one thing. but doing it for you? no. that’s just pure laziness on your part.

true, i’m not really one to talk about schoolwork, but at least i don’t ask other people to do it for me.

if you’re planning on packing, don’t wait until the last minute

27 04 2007

today i’ve started putting things into boxes, and it isn’t really going all that well. i had already put most of the clothes that i had in my closet into one of my two duffle bags, and i’ve put all of my books and movies (11 of the former, 15 of the latter), plus a bunch of other stuff from my desk into 2 boxes, effectively filling both of them. of course naturally i didn’t think to buy boxing tape, so now i’ve got two full boxes that if you pick them up, everything will fall out.

the post office, naturally, closed at 4 and will not be open until monday morning. that means that i get to organize everything so that when i finally go and get the tape, boxes, and other stuff i will need in order to pack, i will be able to do so in record time.

of course, i also have a roommate who likes to bring about half of the surrounding area’s gay population home with him during any given weekend, so i don’t know how well my plan is going to work, if at all.

in other news, Saint Leo University recently broke the unwritten rule of colleges and universities by closing their library before midnight during exam week.

if only I had more time

26 04 2007

there are several things i need to get done today, first of which is to write 2 800 word papers and another 1500 word one for english due by 4:30, while also having a 5 pager due by 5 for human behaviors. grades are going to be posted around the 4th, so i might be able to get an extension on the 5 pager, however i doubt this will happen. this is because we’ve known about it all semester, and there’s simply no way that i’m going to be able to either do a) finish it today with all the work i have to do, or b) finish it over the weekend while also doing mymathlab, packing, and mailing shit home, while also getting my transcripts sent up to curry. of course naturally ashleigh decided that she would volunteer me to bring buckman’s forms to that really weird office in saint eds, so the fact that i have to wait until 10am or whenever the other kids finish to start on them won’t give me enough time to finish. fuckin hell, just my luck too. of course naturally both buckman and wiest are teachers that i’m not the biggest fan of, but at least with wiest she keeps the class moving, buckman doesn’t even try to pretend to care, let alone actually care.

last night was the last den night of the school year for me, and it was interesting. i was happy that i was able to finally talk to them after about a month of either not calling in or being unable to call in. and then i found out that i was late to a building meeting, where they were discussing the oh-so-important topic of moving out. what a nightmare, because you have to check out before you can leave, and my RA has wonderfully decided to not check kids out on the day that i need to check out. fan-fuckin-tabulous. what am i supposed to do? sign out the day before and then stay in the lounge or the hallway until i can get a shuttle ride to the airport? it’s bullshit, i tell you, total bullshit.

hopefully these kids will finish their papers and get the stupid evaluations done so i can turn them in and crank out the 8 pages of papers i have to write by this evening.

‘korva te’ says world

23 04 2007

i am fucked, ladies and gentlemen. not only do i have a 5 page paper, 2 mathlabs, another 3 page paper, and a powerpoint to do by tomorrow, i also have totally forgotten the 500 word assignment for human behaviors. and naturally i have to get that peer-evaluated, so it’s not like i can do it overnight. FUCK!

this is all for now, i shall see you on the other side.

Days Go By

23 04 2007

as i’ve said before, the past few days have been rough. i still have yet to get all my laundry done, all of my papers finished and turned in, and my stuff packed and mailed home. as of right now, i have a tv and phone up for sale. the picture in here is the tv that i have that has a built-in dvd player with a cable cord (that white line going towards the ac) and a remote (not pictured). i’ll even throw that little skull in just for kicks. several people have said that they would buy it, but it seems as if they’re more interested in saying that they want it instead of actually wanting it and getting it. oh well.

yesterday (april 21st) was my dad’s birthday, so i made sure to call him and wish him a happy birthday. of course, with my family being, well, my family, i got the answering machine multiple times before my mom finally answered and said that everyone was outside on the deck enjoying the much-needed and long-awaited spring weather up at home. there is now only a week and a half left before i go home for the summer, and i must say that this year has been interesting, in all senses of the word. when i get home, i will write a year-in-review post, as if i haven’t been writing about school enough since the semester started.

i’ve added some new components to the page if you haven’t noticed already, including some links, some are for my personal pages, as well as the website for my parent’s company. the others are random people’s blogs that i find interesting and read quite often. they’re definately worth reading, if not more so than mine.

this is all for now, i hope you all have a safe rest of the year, and i’ll see ya next time.

moving out soon

20 04 2007

i’m currently trying to get my stuff organized to go home, and i got an email today from my mom telling me of some of the stuff i have to get rid of: the sheets, the tv, the schoolbooks, the shampoo, the laundry detergent, and some other things. i’m going to end up throwing this stuff out if no one buys it, because i simply cannot afford to send this stuff home, and my parents have already paid for this year’s tuition so it would be inconsiderate and rude of me to ask them to pay for it. if you live in the saint leo area (preferably someone who lives at/goes to saint leo), please come see me if you need any of this. thanks.

better late than never

20 04 2007

by now, everyone’s heard about the massacre that happened at VA Tech on monday. i’m sorry for those who thinks that it’s unneccesary for bloggers to continue to talk about it, but it just has to be done, it’s too soon after the fact for people to just get it out of their heads. what the man did was unacceptable, disturbing, and cruel. you don’t just go out and shoot people because they are rich, snotty, or self-centered. i grew up in new canaan where there was just as much rich snotty & self-centered people and you don’t see me going around and shooting people just because i don’t like the way they live their lives. if you don’t like the way people decide to run their own lives, that’s fine, you don’t have to. but EVERYONE has the right to live the way they choose to, regardless of whether or not you agree with it.

the fact that major news organizations (most notably NBC) continue to show pictures and videos of the mentally ill shooter shows how desperate and insensitive they are that they are willing to exacerbate the pain and sorrow that the families of those who were killed, as well as the students at VA Tech, just to keep people watching their network. that, to me, is sickening and disrespectful. the man is mentally ill, and while he is dead as well, you are giving him exactly what he wanted: a place to spread his wrongful message. NBC, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

if you’re sending your kid off to a school out of state

19 04 2007

The past couple of days have been nothing but hell. between organizing, writing, going to class, and laundry, i’ve somehow been able to find one night (tuesday night, to be specific) where i was actually able to sleep. it’s a rare occasion, if you didn’t already know. I’m currently in the process of finishing up a research paper for my human behaviors class, while going through all the meaningless crap i’ve accumulated over the past eight and a half months here at college. Most of the stuff i have (the cds, movies, the two calendars, the non-school related books, the re-usable water bottle that i’ve suffocated with bumper stickers, etc) i’m taking home with me, while some (the tv, the school related books, the phone, the extra bottle of shampoo, and the hanging plastic skeleton) i’m hoping to sell before i leave or else it’ll end up in the trash. i’ve uploaded some photos onto Yahoo! Photos (which can be found in the links under the archive) of what my room currently looks like, and the transformations it will go through as i sort, throw out, mail, and pack what i’ve got in here now.

as i’ve told my parents, i hate relying on other people to get stuff done. i’d rather do it myself. take this whole process, for example. my parents have repeatedly said that i’m not allowed to have a car on campus until i have a 3.2 GPA for a year, which is something that i can somewhat agree with, since they’re paying for school and all. however, this process of moving is making me sick. packing the majority of my stuff into boxes and mailing it home is not only time consuming but it also puts me (and my stuff) in a position where i’m trusting a company like FedEx or USPS to move my stuff from one location to the other. the way that i would like it to be is where i would go home the friday before school ends (we have to be out by wednesday, may 2nd), drive down that weekend (i’m even willing to buy an old clunker and paying for a month or two of insurance if they dont want me driving the truck), put all the stuff that i’m keeping in it, and driving home. i know that my parents have objections to this, since they don’t want me driving from ct to here, and taking time out of the weekend before my math exam on tuesday. which is totally understandable. however, you have to understand that one of my biggest pet peeves is having other people involved in things that i can very well do on my own. don’t ask me why i’m like this, i just am.

here is a list of the things i need to sell before May 1st:
-New American Bible- $2
-Careers in Social Work- $10
-Social Work: A Profession of Many Faces 11th ed.- $30
-tag body spray- $5
-A87 body spray- $5
-Magnavox TV w/ built-in DVD player, remote, and cable cord- $35
-Uniden 2.4 GHz cordless phone- $10

4 more days of classes! that is, if you’re on a tuesday/thursday schedule

17 04 2007

so today is tuesday…huzzah! today is also the 4th to last day of classes for me before finals start. oh, and am i going to be busy these next two weeks. not only have i successfully procrastonated to the near point of no return, i also have loads of stuff to get rid of before moving up to the unusually cold destination called connecticut in spring. which means that i have to somehow get rid of all of the stuff that i’m not taking back up with me, mail the stuff from my desk from here to home, pack the rest of my shit up in the two duffle bags and a backpack that i’ve got, while simutaniously writing 3 papers and doing 4 chapters worth of mymathlab. oh, and that’s not all.

if i haven’t already told you, i’m transferring out of saint leo and *hopefully* up to a very good looking school named Curry. while it’s on the outskirts of Boston, it has not only the major i want, but the concentration too: radio broadcasting (which falls into the communications major). now, i know that saint leo has a communications major, as i’ve heard from numerous people that they offer it here, however i do not like it here. sure, there’s the weather, and the location, however, when it’s late august/early september and it’s raining literally EVERY SINGLE DAY with upper 80’s/lower 90’s degree weather, it just isn’t pleasant. add in the fact that this school is out in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE mixed in with the fact that i will be car-less until my junior year, saint leo just isn’t the school i want to stay at. i’d rather go to NCC next year than to come back here. that is how much i dislike this school. and while i hold no personal grudges against the people who run this very Catholic institution, there’s just something about organized religion that really turns me off. to me it’s sort of like being stuck on a hunting trip with dick cheney or in a car with ted kennedy, there’s just something about this school that just doesn’t seem right to me. and so, as of may 1st, i will no longer be a student here at saint leo.

that also means that i have to get my transcripts from here to curry before i leave, while also formally withdrawing from the school, which seems to be quite the difficult thing to do. this is because saint leo has decided that, for me, i have 3 exams on the 26th (9 days from now), and one on the 1st. now, that leaves four (4) days for me to essentially do nothing but math problems and pack before taking a math exam at 10 in the morning, make sure my transcripts have been sent, and then withdraw from the university. i have talked to my professor about possibly taking it before then so that i can get everything finalized and done, however the logistics of it have not been figured out yet. i shall let you all know what i plan on doing once that plan has been laid down. until then, i wish you all a good day, and hope that the next two weeks won’t resemble hell for you as much as it will for me.

ps- the National Day of Silence is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 18th. hope y’all can take part.
pps- once i get home i will be changing the name of this blog, as i will no longer be somewhere out in the middle of hicksville. if you have any suggestions, click on my profile and then either email me or im me whatever your idea is. thanks.

ppps- i have opened the comments section so that anyone can comment on any particular post.

you know you live in a small town when…

12 04 2007

i was talking to a friend of mine from home (who has since moved) not that long ago, and we both found that our towns are in fact, quite small. here’s my (very short) list of ’small town’ jokes, just from living in st. leo. if you’ve got more, feel free to let me know and i’ll add them

you know you live in a small town when:

-the population grows from 650 to 2,700 just because fall semester started at the local college
-the town hall is nothing more than a house with offices in it
-the only business in town is a farmer’s market
-the local church, post office, monastary, and abbey are all on a college campus
-the only school in your town is a college that most people don’t know about
-there’s only one religion, but two seperate churches that are within a mile of one another
